Smart Cards Provide Member Access To PC Services At Social Club

Customer:

The AYS CYBER CAFE at Antibes, is representative of the growing number of social gathering places worldwide where customers have access to personal computers, food and refreshments.

Challenge:

The Cyber Cafe's management wanted to equip each of its PCs with a smart card reader and offer a customer card to make it easier to use the PCs without imposing access controls or time limits. Another goal was to allow the users to connect immediately to the applications of their choice or to the Internet

Product:

Eltron's P300C card printer. P300 Series printers come standard with Windows™ drivers and WindCard™ software. Their surprisingly small footprint and easy- loading, minimal maintenance design make desk-top operation simple and efficient. They print sharp, readable bar codes, graphics and text in less than five seconds. Optional features include magnetic stripe and Smart chip encoding.

All P Series on-demand plastic card printers offer sharp 300 dpi print resolution. Durable design features give you full color value or monochrome economy, and assure the portability necessary for on-demand personal identification card printing.

Use P300 printers to print:

  • Membership cards
  • Visitor and employee badges
  • Identification and access control cards
  • Student identification cards

Result:

Once the holder of a smart card inserts it into the PC's card reader, the computer is activated for authorized use during a set time period. Additional charges are managed automatically through card debits. The smart card can be recredited on request at reception in exchange for cash or other forms of payment

The advantage to management is that there is less need for money to change hands and user time need is monitored automatically, thus saving labor. The Cyber Cafe can modify the user time authorized by the card according to specific criteria and the options chosen. The user also has the option of a high or medium capacity card.
